Teacher training in bilingual education for the inclusion of students with hearing disabilities | Formación docente en educación bilingüe para la inclusión del alumnado con discapacidad auditiva

A systematic review | revisión sistemática

Abstract

The educational inclusion of students with hearing impairments is a fundamental right to promote an equitable and just society. To meet the communicative needs of these students, qualified teacher training in bilingual education that integrates sign language is necessary. This systematic review focuses on teacher training in bilingual education for students with hearing loss. A total of 17 studies were reviewed that analyze teacher preparation regarding specific skills, resources, and inclusive strategies in the classroom context. The results highlight significant barriers, such as limited technical preparation in the use of sign language, a lack of adapted teaching materials, and a paucity of ongoing training that allows teachers to update their skills and competencies. This situation results in less effective inclusive practices, resulting in unequal educational quality for students with hearing impairments.
